On May 14, an examination for 3rd year bachelor students majoring in “Technologies of Medical Diagnosis and Treatment” in the discipline “Internal Medicine with evaluation of research results” was held at the Department of Internal Medicine №3 and Endocrinology of KhNMU. The exam was conducted by the head of Department, Professor Larysa Zhuravlyova and Associate Professor Krivonosova Olena in an online format on the Moodle platform of KhNMU.
The final test on the thematic sections of the discipline Endocrinology and Hematology has begun on the department.
A pre-formed bank of all tests and questions in the department category of courses in the Moodle KNMU system provided a convenient algorithm for generating a ticket in the body of the test. The applied algorithm for the formation of an examination ticket provides for an introductory test with the further possibility of obtaining an essay task and checking it by the teacher. Tasks and tests in the ticket appear randomly from a questions database, containing 450 items. Tickets also have time limits for execution, and access to them is opened directly by the teacher during the lesson. The second stage of the final control with the analysis of answers and the solution of clinical problems takes place synchronously in the webinar room. The head of the department, professor Larisa Zhuravlyova approved this algorithm for the final certification after a step-by-step discussion of its components at a meeting with the department staff.
On April 24, a regular web meeting with the staff of the department to ensure the high quality of the educational process in remote conditions, was held by head of the department Zhuravlyova Larysa. Current issues concerning the implementation of pedagogical, scientific, methodological and medical work were discussed. The procedure for conducting final test of students on the Moodle platform has been approved.
Postgraduate students and interns are actively involved in distance learning at the department. The head of the department, Professor Larysa Zhuravlyova, conducts training webinars on topical issues of internal medicine, analyzes clinical cases, conducts testing.

With the development of information technologies, approaches to the pedagogy of higher education are changing. Therefore, teachers of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 and Endocrinology always actively support innovative ideas in this field.
Current trends in the education of medical students are aimed at maximum interactivity with possible “gamification” of the educational process. At the methodological meeting of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 and Endocrinology, it was proposed by Professor L. Zhuravlova to introduce these technologies into the educational process of the Department. Teachers of the department, postgraduate students and laboratory assistants, actively participated in the development of ideas and tasks.
Thus, on 19th of April, for the first time, the department staff conducted a quest on endocrinology, the goals of which were to systematize students’ knowledge and motivate them to study this section of internal medicine. Five locations were prepared for students, each of which was dedicated to a specific group of pathologies:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Diseases of Thyroid gland
- Adrenal diseases
- Diseases of the hypothalamic-pituitary system
- Emergency conditions
For completing the tasks in each location was given 10 minutes. Students had to guess the rebuses, make the correct diagnosis, choose the right drug for an emergency situation and demonstrate good theoretical background.
To date, the event was attended by more than 60 groups, among which the winners were selected. You can see results here.
Despite the fact that the quest format itself is not new, this approach has unlimited potential and prospects in the education of medical students. That is why the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 and Endocrinology will facilitate the introduction of modern educational methods with the widespread use of information technology.
On March 28, a webinar “New Strategies for Managing of Therapeutic Patients” for interns was took place at the Department of Internal Medicine № 3 and Endocrinology.
The final competition of student research tool place in KhNMU on March 12, 2019. It was held in the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between SYNEVO and KNMU.
Medianik Elizaveta, a 6th year student of the II-nd Faculty of Medicine, represented the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 and Endocrinology with a scientific work the topic: “Determining the effect of type 2 diabetes mellitus on bone tissue metabolism and development of osteoarthritis”, which was performed at the department, Ph.D. Oliinyk Maria was the head of the scientific work.
Medyanik Elizaveta won the first place in the nomination “Endocrinology” according to the results of the competition.
